When is food considered healthy?

Posted in Uncategorized on 04/14/2009 08:40 am by admin

When is a food considered healthy?

1.       When the first 3 ingredients are NOT salt or sugar.
2.       When the label reads “NO SUGAR ADDED”, like on 100% fruit juice.
3.       When it’s LOW in fat and saturated fat.
4.       When it’s a food that comes from one of the 4 food groups.
5.       When it’s roasted or steamed instead of deep-fried.

In my honest opinion, foods with little or no ingredients are the ones to go for.  When I am grocery shopping, I read the labels and when the item contains ingredients that I cannot pronounce I put it back on the shelf.

Crazy workouts

Posted in Uncategorized on 03/18/2009 10:41 am by admin

I love being back and motivated. Im feeling smaller and stronger. Which is awesome because I was really worried about loosing momentum from not being able to train, to be honest I think that the rest did me the world of good.

Mondays workout was just plain crazy.
400m run 40 squats, 40 modified pull ups, 40 lunges 40 press ups 15 burpees 3 times through

These kind of workouts should be done for time, but I left my stopwatch at home.

I ended up taking Tuesday off as I had a meeting downtown that took most of the day.

Today I decided to run a 5km, I walked for 5 mins to warm up and then ran it in 25 minutes, not my best time but it will do :0)

I have to remember to focus on getting some back exercises in, I want to strengthen my back to pull my shoulders back so Im not looking as rounded. Today I did some one arm rows and lots of stretching.

Rest and Recouperation

Posted in Uncategorized on 02/21/2009 06:42 pm by admin

I had the second LEEP cone done on Wednesday, so as long as I do not hear anything back I should be good.  This time Im listening to the Doc and staying away from exercise and lifting, this is hugely frustrating as I was so focused with my workouts but if I exercise I will just do what I did in the Summer and end up being out for longer.

SO,  when you are faced with not being able to exercise (strenuously) what can you do???????

You can still make sure that you are getting the 10,000 steps in.

You can work on your flexibility.

The most important thing you can do is to stay on track with your diet, this will ensure that you are not loosing any of the hard work and effort that you have put in.  I know its hard and you feel frustrated when you cant exercise, but being good to your body by fueling it correctly is so important.  Eating a lb of chocolate or crisps will not make you feel better in the long run nor get you to your all importan goals.

Stick with it and adjust your exercise plan to what you are allowed to do !

Where am I?

Posted in Uncategorized on 02/11/2009 02:42 pm by admin

Sorry I have not been on line here for a few days.

I got hit pretty hard with this flu bug thats going around, so I have just been taking it easy.

I have not worked out since last Friday, but thats OK, im going to be making up for it this weekend when Im on the kettlebell course. Im so excited to be doing this, if I pass the exam I will be certified to teach kettlebells, I think that adding in some of the kettlebell exercises to the bootcamp class im setting up will be really cool.

I have not had much of an appetite but what I am eating good food when I feel hungry. Im craving oranges and grapefruit at the mo! yum

Thursday

Posted in Uncategorized on 01/30/2009 11:00 am by admin

Did intervals on the treadmill, I maxed out 2 of the 5 sprints at 12 mph, I even tried the make the treadmill go faster than that, but that was the top speed.  Im sure that some of the other treadmills go faster than that !

Food was OK, but missed a couple of meals out.

Oatmeal and almonds

Banana and protein shake

Lunch was out at Coras(2pm), I had a Western Skillet with poached egg.  Deffo overate as I didnt eat anything else until 10pm.  I wasnt hungry before I left to go to my course and then did not get a chance to eat u until 10pm.

Ham 4 slices (shaved), 1 x ryvita

Very lacking in the fruits and veggies, Friday will be awesome.

Feels GOOD to be back on track

Posted in Goal setting, KettleBelleBody Challenge, Kettlebells, Motivation, Nutrition, Uncategorized on 01/26/2009 07:07 pm by admin

So yesterdays meal planning went well, and it really did make a difference to how I am feeling.

One of my most favorite saying is “Failing to plan, is planning to fail” so why did I let myself stop planning????

My workout this morning was amazing, I’m still doing the Kettlebellebody challenge and I am onto week 4 of that, I am seeing big improvements with my strength but not much in size, I know its because I lost focus with my diet.

I did 35lb Kettlebell single arm rows today, now these were supersetted in with walking lunges where I pass the kettlebell under my leg as I walk, I forgot that I needed to do the single arm row when I picked up the big kettlebell and when I was done the lunges on the track I remembered the exercise, I did not want to walk the rest of the track to get the lighter KB so I just sucked it up. Just shows me that sometimes my own mind is the thing holding me back.

My diet is A+ today :0)

Oatmeal and shake (1/3 cup uncooked oatmeal, then with boiling water added)

Banana bread, apple

Almonds 1 apple 1/2 cup carrots

Smoothie ( banana, 1/2 cup mango and 1/2 cup raspberries 3 table spoons of hemp protein podwer) water added to make it drinkable

Bison chili ( 1 ladle- need to see what this measures out to be. 1/2 cup cucumber 1/2 cup tomato

Just my last meal to fit in, it will be 1/2 cup cucumber and 1/2 cup tomato and 1/2 cup cottage cheese

Water is back on track and don’t I know it !!!!! LOL 50 million trips to the loo, well the benefit is getting in a few extra steps !!!!!!!!!

IM BACK AND IT FEELS GOOD
