Posted in Crossfit, Fit Yummy Mummy on 05/26/2008 12:19 pm by adminI spent the weekend reading the nutrition section in the FYM book. Today i am going to finish writing my goals and i will get them added to my blog. I really think having them written down and defined will help me no end. I’m also inspired by some of you girls posting yours on the site.
I am starting with the nutrition as this is my problem. I miss meals in the day and then eat too much at night. I know what i need to do now its time to do it.
Anyway, twice a week i go to Crossfit classes, for those of you who dont know what this is think crazy bootcamp, olympic lifting, gymnastics, cardio …. I really do not want to give this up, as since i have incorporated this style of working out i have made big changes with my body. This mornings workout was a 5km run, this was given to improve your indurance. I was so scared i have never run this far since i was a kid, I am always up for trying something new.
My cardio for the last 3-4 years has consisted of interval training, as you know from Hollys book this is the way to go. I love getting it done in around 20 minutes then for the next day enjoying the benefits of a boosted metabolism. I never paid attention to how far i have gone.
There were 5 of us in class today, another guy and 1 are the same age the rest are 20 year olds, i thought well here we go, im getting my butt kicked. We started out and i decided to go steady, i was thinking that i was running at about 6 mph. I pulled away from everyone, i knew that my speed was not too fast, so i just got into a rytham and concentrated on going forward.
We had to run out to a set point and then run back the same way, on my return i was about 200m ahead of the next person and 1km ahead of the rest. All the time i thought that the guy behind me would overtake on the home stretch. I decided to push myself on the hills rather than slowing down too much. I looked behind and found that i had pulled further away from the next person, i knew that i would not be caught and i just tried to keep that same pace up.
I finished it in 24min 40 secs in 1st place, the next person was 27 minutes and the others were 33 minutes. Not bad for being one of the oldest there!!!! Plus it was on a hilly outdoor course.
I feel so proud to be able to run that far, and not end up walking.
I really must look around and see if there are any races that i can go into around Calgary, i think having an actual goal like that to aim towards will really inspire me more.
